The proposed 1-day guided hiking tour will take us to the highest peak of the Gegham mountain range - Mount Azhdahak! Leaving Yerevan early in the morning, we will first get to the village of Geghard in the Kotayk province of Armenia. The car will drop us at the start of the trail, from where we’ll begin our hike through mesmerizing, breathtaking landscapes of the Gegham Ridge.
Mount Azhdahak has an elevation of 3597 meters above sea level. Picturesque views of the Lake Sevan and the Gegham mountain range open up from the summit. Mounts Hatis, Ara, Aragats and Ararat can be seen from here. Reaching the top, we will descend into the crater of Azhdahak to take a refreshing walk around its crystal-clear lake.
During the tour, we will also explore the numerous petroglyphs - ancient carvings on the rocks, discovered around Azhdahak. These petroglyphs depict scenes of hunting, fighting, dancing, humans and animals, as well as the sun, the moon, constellations and other astronomical objects and phenomena.
