Join our 1-day guided hiking tour and let’s conquer the Mount Aragats together! Situated on the border of Aragatsotn and Shirak provinces, Aragats is the highest mountain in Armenia. We will start the ascension from Lake Kari, located on a plateau at an elevation of about 3200 meters above sea level. The lake is formed by ice and snow, and its waters are very cold even during the summer months. Following the trail, we will hike up to the southern peak (3887 m.) of Mount Aragats.
According to a legend, the mountain owes its name to the legendary Armenian hero Ara the Beautiful, Aragats meaning “Ara’s throne”. Another tradition states that the mountain was named Aragats by Aramanyak, son of the legendary patriarch and founder of the Armenian nation. Along with Mount Ararat, Aragats is considered sacred in Armenia, which speaks of its importance in Armenian culture.
